STEPtember 24

FOR PEOPLE WITH CEREBRAL PALSY.

I have joined the STEPtember challenge and I would love for you to support me!

You will notice I haven't gone for the traditional 10K steps a day, and instead am aiming for a seemingly much smaller 4,000 steps per day. This though, will still be a challenge, especially to try for every day - good and bad! Some may know, but earlier this year I was diagnosed with seronegative inflammatory arthritis. I am actively trying to move more, and this challenge will hopefully help with that, all while supporting a very worthy cause!

Every dollar I raise will support life-changing research, treatment, services and assistive technologies to help people with cerebral palsy. Please help me support this great cause, and let's STEP up together, for cerebral palsy.

Ups and Downs - But a big UP

Wednesday 11th Sep
My Peer Mentor told me that the first year of illness is a lot of trying to figure out your patterns and your triggers - and every time I think ok this seems like a pattern, hey PRESTO. No it is not :D

So last week in a change of pattern I crashed hard on Thursday, slightly worrying my workplace that correctly assumed I was asleep half the day (do not worry I know how INCREDIBLY INCREDIBLY lucky I am to have such an understanding boss). Then on Friday - the day after my meds, I actually felt good! Which was unusual because the past 4 or so weeks they had left me nauseous and the week before the nausea had lasted Friday through Monday!!

This good feeling carried through, and on Sunday we showed Morgan's US colleague around Sydney (see the lovely view from Observatory Hill below). In a really welcome turn of events I did 15k steps!!!! And I didn't get hit with fatigue like normal, so I was both surprised and really really really happy.

Yesterday I started to feel ill again and needed a nap, but as long as I know to listen to my body and rest when I need to I'm really excited that my "good" body times seem to be getting better :)

Happy Stepping to everyone and remember the great cause we are doing this for!!

Why STEPtember is important to me

Every 20 hours, an Australian child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

I'm STEPing up this September to fundraise to support Cerebral Palsy Alliance in their mission to help people with cerebral palsy live their best lives.

STEPtember participants are passionate about being healthy, building a more inclusive world and making a life-changing impact for people with cerebral palsy.

Will you STEP up with me for cerebral palsy?
